About Robert S. McNamara
Robert S. McNamara was an influential American business executive and public servant, best known for his role as Secretary of Defense under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson from 1961 to 1968. A graduate of Harvard University and a World War II veteran, McNamara played a key role in escalating U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, advocating for the use of quantitative analysis in military and defense strategies. After leaving government service, he became president of the World Bank, serving from 1968 to 1981, where he focused on global development and poverty alleviation.
