About Desmond Tutu
Desmond Tutu was a South African Anglican bishop and social rights activist, renowned for his pivotal role in the anti-apartheid movement. Born on October 7, 1931, he became the first Black Archbishop of Cape Town and the first African to hold that position in the global Anglican Communion. Tutu's work as a moral leader and advocate for human rights earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, and he continued to champion issues of equity and justice until his passing on December 26, 2021.
